criminal background history and drug/alcohol test: All students enrolled in a nursing program with a clinical component are required to have a criminal background check and drug/alcohol test upon admission. FVI will not accept any applicant with a criminal background or open charges that are noted as disqualifying factors toward licensure in the state of Florida. The Institute reserves the right to deny acceptance of any applicant it believes would not be eligible for participation in clinical experiences with one, some or all contracted agencies.
Essentials Abilities Standard for Nursing Students: Nursing requires the caregiver to be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of patient care. FVI has adapted the standards established by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). The Institute will make appropriate academic accommodations to facilitate enrollment and participation of qualified individuals with temporary or permanent disabilities.

Failure to comply with the health clearance, vaccinationsand/or immunization policy by the required date may result in dismissal from the program.

Nursing Admissions Readiness Evaluation (NARE): Applicants must demonstrate minimum knowledge and competency in English, mathematics and sciences as part of the acceptance decision. The Nursing Admissions Readiness Evaluation (NARE) is a standardized assessment that identifies applicant’s areas of strength and weakness in the required areas of assessment. The Institute reserves the right to change the assessment and minimum passing standard without notice. Assessment and minimum passing standards are based on evidence-based practices compared against successful outcomes. The minimum composite passing score is 75% in English and 75% in mathematics. Applicants who fail to achieve the minimum passing standard on the first evaluation are permitted one additional attempt. Failure to achieve a minimum passing standard on the second attempt will result in program enrollment deferral. Applicants may retest after 30 days after the last attempt. Applicantsare responsible for all fees associated with each attempt. An applicant who fails to achieve the minimum passing score on the third or subsequent attempt will be denied enrollment for a period of one full academic term.
